CARY, N.C. – The College of Saint Rose pushed across five runs with two outs in the second inning and four pitchers combined on a five-hitter in today's 5-2 win versus Mansfield at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Â
"It was just good to play after a few days off due to weather and it was especially nice to come out with a great team win," said head coach
Wayne Jones.
Â
Saint Rose (3-5), which was rained out the previous two days, took advantage of a pair of errors and sophomore first baseman
Jack McDonald belted an RBI double in the decisive second frame.
Â
Meanwhile, sophomore right-hander
Cameron Flynn gave up two runs on three hits throughout 6.0 innings of work to go to 1-1 on the young season. Freshman right-hander
Tyrell Irvis, and senior right-handers
Casey Krebs and
Nicholas Zuba surrendered just two hits collectively while working an inning each over the final three frames.
Â
Senior designated hitter
Jon Montesanti, junior left fielder
Stephan MacMeans, and freshman center fielder
Janiel Ramirez each had a hit for Saint Rose.
Â
Junior right-hander Josh Manke came on with two outs in the second and wound up hurling 7.1 innings of two-hit, shutout ball for the Mountaineers (4-6). Senior second baseman Brady Mengel went 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.
Â
Looking ahead, both teams continue their residency at the USA Baseball National Training Complex tomorrow. The Golden Knights take on Fairmont State at 3:30 pm, while Mansfield faces Walsh University at 7:30 pm.
