GOLDEN KNIGHTS WALK-OFF WINNERS VS. CEDARVILLE

Saint Rose Splits Today's Games in Florida

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Freshman infielder Madison Chandler hit a walk-off grand slam as The College of Saint Rose came back to beat Cedarville 8-4 this afternoon.

Down 3-0 heading to the home half of the fifth, senior designated player Shannon Moore doubled home junior infielder Savanna Liverio to get Saint Rose on the board.  The Golden Knights kept their momentum going with three runs in the sixth to take the lead. Junior infielder Ryane Brush laced a two-run double to highlight the frame.

Cedarville (3-11) used a successful safety squeeze to knot the game in the top of the seventh.

A lead-off single by freshman outfielder McKenna Ryan and a hit batter, sandwiched around a Yellow Jacket error on a sacrifice bunt, set the stage for Chandler to put the Golden Knights in the win column for the first time this spring.

Liverio was 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, and Brush went 1-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Junior outfielder Alissa Folts effectively turned the lineup over as the ninth hitter, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored, while freshman right-hander Alysa Houghtaling  went the distance to earn her first collegiate victory.

Earlier in the day, The University of Mary defeated the Golden Knights in walk-off fashion, 11-10, in eight innings.

The Golden Knights got started early by scoring six runs in the top of the first. Chandler homered to lead off the game, while sophomore right-hander Samantha Allen laced a two-run single during the outburst.

Mary (5-7) came back, making it an 8-7 contest through four frames. Moore stemmed the Marauders' momentum and gave the Black and Gold some insurance runs with a two-run single in the fifth. However, Mary got them right back in the bottom half before adding an unearned run in the sixth to send the game to extra innings.

Junior catcher Rachael Laetsch hit a two-out single off Houghtaling for the decisive run.

Chandler was 4-for-4 with three runs scored to lead Saint Rose. The rookie was 5-for-7 with two home runs, five runs scored and five RBI on the day.

The Golden Knights (1-3) have a pair of games scheduled for tomorrow afternoon. Saint Rose will face Kentucky Wesleyan at 2:30 pm and Clarion at 4:45 pm.
