WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The College of Saint Rose defeated Clarion 5-4 this afternoon at THE Spring Games. Freshman infielder
Madison Chandler once again provided the difference with a home run in the seventh inning. The rookie, who hit a walk-off grand slam yesterday vs. Cedarville, led off the top of the inning with a solo shot to break the 4-4 tie.
Chandler, who went 2-for-3 with three runs scored in the win, manufactured a run in the first. After getting hit by a pitch to begin the game, she stole second and third to be able to score on a single by junior shortstop
Ryane Brush. Senior designated player
Shannon Moore singled home Brush with two out to give the Golden Knights a 2-0 lead.
After Brush lofted a sac fly to score Chandler in the third, Moore put Saint Rose up 4-1 in the fifth by doubling home junior infielder
Savanna Liverio.
Clarion plated two in the fifth before a solo homer by junior catcher Jessica Carita knotted the game in the sixth.
Moore finished 3-for-3 with two RBI and two doubles, while Brush was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Saint Rose began the day by falling 5-2 to Kentucky Wesleyan.
A three-run first inning rally by the Panthers (3-9) ended up being the difference in the Sunday matinee. Brush and freshman outfielder
McKenna Ryan (Troy, N.Y./Tamarac) had RBI singles for the Black and Gold.
Saint Rose (2-4) continues its time in Florida on Tuesday with a pair of morning games. The Golden Knights will play Concordia (N.Y.) at 9:15 am and Felician at 11:30 am.
Notes: Moore leads the Golden Knights in hitting at .529, while Chandler has scored a team-high ten runs...Brush and Moore have driven in a team-best eight runs apiece.
