BRUSH HOMERS TWICE ON OPENING DAY

Golden Knights Drops Pair of Games to Begin Florida Trip

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – The College of Saint Rose opened its season with a pair of losses at THE Spring Games in Florida. The Golden Knights (0-2) began the day by falling to Notre Dame (Ohio) 6-3 before getting edged by Western Oregon 10-8.

Junior shortstop Ryane Brush led the Saint Rose offense, going 4-for-6 with four runs scored, two home runs and three RBI on the day. Senior infielder Shannon Moore and freshman right-hander Alysa Houghtaling each went 3-for-6, while junior infielder Savanna Liverio was 2-for-7 with a homer, three RBI and three runs scored.

After Notre Dame opened the scoring with a run in the second, Saint Rose responded with two-out rally in the third. Freshman infielder Madison Chandler doubled and came around to score on a single by freshman outfielder Ciana Phillips. Brush followed with a two-run home run. The Falcons (1-3) answered with a five-run fourth to take the game.

Saint Rose got the jump on Western Oregon early, putting across four runs in the top of the first and a pair in the second. Moore and Houghtaling had RBI singles in the first, while Brush blasted her second homer of the day in the second. Moore would eventually drive in Liverio with a two-out double.

The Wolves (9-5) got back into the game on a three-run home run by junior infielder Tyler Creach in the third.

After Brush led off the fourth with a walk, Liverio cleared the fence to get two of the runs back. Western Oregon slowly but surely continued to trim the Saint Rose advantage, plating three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to knot the contest at eight. The Wolves would complete the comeback with a two-run sixth.

Saint Rose has a pair of games scheduled for tomorrow. The Golden Knights will play Mary at 10:15 am and Cedarville at 12:30 pm.
