SYLLA RECORDS MONSTER “DOUBLE-DOUBLE” IN SETBACK AT NE10 RIVAL AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore forward Sekou Sylla recorded a prolific "double-double", but host American International shot 50.0 percent (27-for-54) from the floor to chalk up an 80-59 Northeast-10 Conference victory against the Golden Knights this evening.

Sylla finished with 32 points and a career-high 21 rebounds to lead Saint Rose (3-12/0-6 NE10). Freshman guard Cartier Bowman added eight points and five boards.

Junior guard Jordan Vidal paced five Yellow Jackets (5-10/1-3 NE10) in twin figures with 16 points. Sophomore swing Branislav Terzic tossed in 15 and hauled in six rebounds.

American International led throughout the game's final 37 minutes and manufactured 21 Saint Rose miscues into 25 points. The Yellow Jackets put themselves in control by closing the first half with a 20-9 run that turned a 27-20 lead into a 47-29 advantage at the break.

Looking ahead, both squads have 3:30 pm home conference dates Saturday as the crossover portion of the 2019-20 league schedule commences. The Golden Knights host Assumption, while the Yellow Jackets take on Franklin Pierce.
Notes: Five underclassmen have made 47 out of a possible 75 starts for the Golden Knights this season, including three tonight…Sylla was recently named to the NCAA.COM First Half Starting Five…He was also chosen to the NE10 weekly honor roll Monday…Sylla is among the country's top-10 and leads the NE10 in rebounding (12.2)…He is also third in the league in scoring (22.1), is the only NE10 player averaging a "double-double", and is one of only three averaging more than 20 points…Sylla has been especially dominant of late, averaging 26.3 points and 14.0 boards throughout the past six games.
