SAINT ROSE FALLS TWICE AT MOLLOY TOURNAMENT


ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose concluded its season-opening weekend by dropping a pair of matches at Molloy. The Golden Knights were swept 3-0 by the host Lions (25-9, 25-15, 25-15) and Wilmington (25-18, 25-20, 25-14).

Senior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer totaled 16 kills to lead the Saint Rose (2-2) offense, while senior libero Tina Ceriello recorded 27 digs across the six sets.

Molloy (3-0) received 12 kills from junior middle hitter Kacey Affrunti and 30 assists from senior setter Sophia Smith. The defensive specialist duo of senior Jessica Fischetti (13) and freshman Brynne Winkelman (10) combined for 23 digs in the win.

Wilmington hit .323 to sweep the night cap. Junior outsider hitter Bailey Andrews led the Wildcats (1-0) with 13 kills on .458 hitting. Sophomore setter Sarah Couch dished out 36 assists.

Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have their home opener Tuesday at 7:00 pm vs. Post. Wilmington is right back at it tomorrow, taking on Franklin Pierce and Queens College at Queens. Molloy is off until it participates in the Bentley Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

Notes: Saint Rose was picked to finish ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches' poll...Ceriello averaged 5.33 digs per set during the weekend...Schweitzer tops the Golden Knights with 3.42 kills per set.
