SPRINFIELD, Mass.-The College of Saint Rose scored twice within a 10-minute stretch that spanned the two halves on the way to today's 3-1 win versus Bloomfield on the final day of a season-opening kickoff classic at American International College.
Â
Five different players figured in the scoring column and sophomore keeper
Ryan Henning stopped a penalty kick in the 45th minute and got in the air to deflect a dangerous shot off a restart in the 70th to propel the Golden Knights (2-0) cause.
Â
"This was a great team performance today against a dangerous and well coached Bloomfield team. I was really pleased with some of our spells of possession and we were very dangerous in the final third. This tournament provided two great tests for our young team and we are looking forward now to getting back to training and improving," said head coach
John Ciano.
Â
Sophomore back
Colin Sherlock struck for the first goal in the 41st to make it 1-0 Saint Rose at halftime. Sophomore midfielder
Filippo Bellú then finished a feed from freshman forward
Daniel Rechni for what proved to be the game winner five minutes into the second stanza. Freshman forward
Hilmar Halldorsson made it 3-0 in the 65th by converting a pass from senior midfielder
Victor Goncalves-Rocha.
Â
Bloomfield (0-2) spoiled Henning's' shutout bid with only 46 seconds left on a goal by junior forward Isaac Levi Rodrigues.
