ORANGEBURG, N.Y.-Junior back
Andrew Lule headed home a feed from sophomore midfielder
Simari Smith in the 60th minute to propel The College of Saint Rose to today's 2-1 road win at Dominican.
The host Chargers (0-2) manufactured a 12-9 shot advantage, including a 7-5 edge in threats on target, but sophomore keeper
Ryan Henning recorded three saves in each period to keep them at bay.
"This was a hard fought team victory on the road versus a very tough Dominican side. We had a lot of new players step up and perform well on a very hot day in difficult conditions. We still have yet to play our best soccer, but it's a positive sign that we are finding ways to win," said head coach
John Ciano.
Senior midfielder
Victor Goncalves-Rocha made it 1-0 Golden Knights (3-0) when he knocked home a cross from junior midfielder Oskar Aaströem with 14:51 gone by. However, Dominican countered less than a minute later when freshman forward Ewan Gray delivered home a shot off a throw in from freshman back Patryk Gruca.
The contest remained even throughout the ensuing 45 minutes, before Lule delivered the difference maker.
Looking ahead, both teams have home matches Sunday. The Golden Knights take on Caldwell at 1:00 pm, while the Chargers host Salem International at 2:00 pm.
Notes: Henning was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalie of the Week and freshman forward
Daniel Rechni was tabbed the Rookie of the Week on Monday…Six different players have accounted for each of the team's six strikes this fall.
