SPRINFIELD, Mass.-The College of Saint Rose got its 2019 campaign off on a high note with today's 1-0 non-league win versus New York Tech. The match was held on the American International College campus as part of a four-team kickoff classic.
Â
Two freshmen linked up to provide the lone goal of the match. It seemed only fitting as the Golden Knights' starting lineup featured a trio of rookies. Forward
Daniel Rechni did the honors by finishing a feed from back
Nick Koenig with just two minutes elapsed in the second half.
Â
"Today was a good win for our young team over one of the best squads in the Northeast. New York Tech is a very talented and well-coached team and I was really proud of the hard work, organization and determination our boys showed today," said head coach
John Ciano.
Â
The Bears (0-1) outshot the Golden Knights (1-0) 23-9, but sophomore keeper
Ryan Henning proved up to the task by coming up with nine saves.
Â
Looking ahead, both sides return to Springfield Saturday. Saint Rose takes on Bloomfield, while, New York Tech faces host American International.
