GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL TWICE ON OPENING DAY OF GANNON-EDINBORO TOURNAMENT


ERIE, Pa. - The College of Saint Rose dropped a pair of matches tonight at the Gannon-Edinboro Tournament. The Golden Knights (6-4) lost 3-0 at Gannon before falling 3-1 at Edinboro.

Senior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer topped Saint Rose with a combined 21 kills in the setbacks. Senior libero Tina Ceriello accumulated 41 digs, and freshman setter Valeria Jorge dished out 30 total assists.

Gannon (5-4) hit .313 to take the opener.  Schweitzer had 10 kills, Jorge handed out 14 assists and Ceriello elevated 20 Gannon attacks.

Gannon senior outside hitter Toni Leitshuh topped all players with 12 kills on .417 hitting, while junior setter Ashley Beyers doled out 33 assists. Sophomore defensive specialist Kenzie Lasher led Gannon with 12 digs.

After splitting the opening two frames, Edinboro took the tight third stanza 25-23. The Fighting Scots (5-5), which received a double-double of 11 kills and 17 digs from freshman outsider hitter Bella Burrelli, wrapped up the non-conference affair in four by a score of 25-19.

Schweitzer registered a double-double of 11 kills and 15 digs, while Ceriello tallied 21 digs. Jorge assisted on 16 Saint Rose kills and freshman setter Allison Sellers tossed in 11 helpers.

Junior outside hitter Cierah Jackson recorded a match-high 13 kills in the victory, while sophomore setter Alicia Eldredge passed out 43 assists.
 
The Golden Knights finish their stay in Erie with two matches tomorrow. The team will play Walsh at noon and Malone at 4:00 pm.

Notes: Saint Rose, coming off its first postseason appearance since 2015, was picked ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches' poll…Ceriello was named the Northeast-10 Conference Libero of the Week on Tuesday…She began the week as the Conference leader with 165 digs and 6.60 digs per set… Junior middle hitter Kyla Archie entered the weekend with an NE10-best 1.12 blocks per set…She earned a spot on Tuesday's NE10 weekly honor roll.
