SAINT ROSE GOES TO 4-0 WITH COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN VERSUS CALDWELL

ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose scored two goals eight minutes apart midway through the second half to complete a 2-1 come-from-behind win in its home opener versus Caldwell today.

The Golden Knights (4-0), ranked #7 in the most recent United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll, manufactured a 14-10 shot advantage and a 9-4 corner kick differential throughout the afternoon.

"I was proud of the team's resiliency today against a talented Caldwell side. We went down early on an unlucky goal, but stuck to the game plan and played our game. There were some great positives to take from this match, but we need to continue to improve as we inch closer to conference play,' said head coach John Ciano.

Senior midfielder Victor Goncalves-Rocha converted a penalty kick with 60:19 gone by following a foul in the area and then freshman forward Hilmar Halldorsson struck with the game-winner at the 68:27 mark when he collected a through pass from senior midfielder Niv Fogel and slipped a shot home from 12-yards out.

Sophomore keeper Ryan Henning recorded three saves while bolstering his save percentage to 0.875 on the year. Junior Nils Svere stopped two shots at the other end for the Cougars (0-3).

Freshman forward Andre Vieira put Caldwell up 1-0 on a counter with 21:22 elapsed. Vieira stepped in front of a pass in the offensive third and slipped his shot inside the far left post.

Looking ahead, both sides return to the pitch Wednesday. Saint Rose hosts Molloy at 7:00 pm, while the Chargers head to Long Island to take on New York Tech at 4:00 pm.
Notes: Henning was named the Northeast-10 Conference Goalie of the Week and freshman forward Daniel Rechni was tabbed the Rookie of the Week on Monday…Seven different players have accounted for each of the team's eight strikes this fall…The Golden Knights have opened up 4-0 for the second straight year…They went 6-0 to begin the 2018 campaign.
