ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose suffered its first loss of the year in heartbreaking fashion as visiting Molloy scored the game-winner with less than two minutes left in the second overtime to upend the Golden Knights 2-1 Wednesday evening.
Â
The Lions (3-1-1) got on the board in the opening five minutes and it appeared that would stand up although Golden Knights (4-1-0) wound up controlling possession for 57.0 percent of the game and engineered a staggering 29-17 shot advantage, including a 14-7 differential in threats on target.
Â
Junior midfielder
Andrew Lule made the effort pay dividends when he lofted a free kick from 30-yards out on the left flank into the far side with less than six minutes remaining to bring about overtime.
Â
The contest appeared destined to remain that way, but Molloy senior midfielder Anthony Cestaro dribbled some 25-yards through the offensive third before lining a shot off the crossbar and behind the goal to provide the only blemish on the Saint Rose record this autumn.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are off until next Wednesday when they open Northeast-10 Conference play with a 7:00 pm home match versus Southern Connecticut State. Meanwhile, the Lions begin the East Coast Conference portion of their schedule with a noon match Saturday versus New York Tech.
