GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUPPORT THE REGIONAL FOOD BANK BACKPACK PROGRAM

Saint Rose Goes 2-0 at Tri-Match

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball program contributed to the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York BackPack Program at today's tri-match. In lieu of an admission charge, the team collected food items in support of the campaign. On the court, the Golden Knights (6-2) limited their opponents to .025 hitting in a pair of victories.

Senior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer led the offense with a combined 20 kills. She was one of six Saint Rose players to tally double figures, while senior libero Tina Ceriello registered 64 digs to average eight digs per set on the day.

"Today capped a great weekend for us," said Saint Rose Head Coach Vanessa Volpe-Rivera. "Our newcomers made contributions at key points during our matches to help us come out on top."

Saint Rose began the day by defeating Lock Haven 3-2 (25-19, 20-25, 25-13, 24-26, 15-12).

Defense keyed the five-set victory, as the Golden Knights held the visitors to .014 hitting and totaled 15 blocks. The Black and Gold forced Lock Haven to hit negatively twice, including -.067 in the decisive fifth stanza. Ceriello, one of five Saint Rose players with double digits in digs, elevated 40 Bald Eagles attacks. Junior middle hitters Kyla Archie and Victoria Fogg totaled four blocks apiece.

Schweitzer registered a double-double of 14 kills and 20 digs, while freshman outside hitter Ele'sia Williams added ten kills. The freshman setting duo of Valeria Jorge, 23 assists and 14 digs, and Allison Sellers, 16 assists and 11 digs, each recorded a double-double.

Lock Haven (4-2) received a double-double of 18 kills and 19 digs from senior middle hitter Breanna McDonald. Senior setter Kristen Nealon dished out 35 assists, while junior libero Paige Wolfe recorded 23 digs to top the Bald Eagles.

The day closed with the Black and Gold sweeping Nyack (25-13, 25-11, 25-22).

Freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Johnson, one of four Saint Rose players with a half dozen kills, led the way with ten kills. Sellers attained another double-double, 14 assists and ten digs, while Ceriello recorded 24 digs.

Junior middle hitter Kyra Zuhlke topped the Warriors (1-5) with eight kills. Junior setter Rachel Medin registered 12 digs and 11 assists for a double-double. She was one of four Nyack players to reach twin figures in digs.

In between the Saint Rose matches, Lock Haven defeated Nyack 3-1.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose heads to Erie, Pennsylvania to participate in next weekend's Gannon Tournament. Lock Haven is off until September 26 for its PSAC opener at Edinboro. Nyack begins CACC play Wednesday night at Post.
The BackPack Program helps alleviate child hunger by discreetly providing hungry children with backpacks full of nutritious and easy-to-prepare food on Friday afternoons so they have food to eat throughout the weekend. The Program serves more than 6,500 students in 220 schools across 20 counties.

The Regional Food Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in Northeastern New York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties.

Notes: Saint Rose, coming off their first postseason appearance since 2015, was picked ninth in the Northeast-10 Conference preseason coaches' poll…Ceriello tops the NE10 with 165 total digs and 6.60 digs per set…Archie leads the Conference with 1.12 blocks per set.
