VOLLEYBALL VOLUNTEERS AT PATROON LAND FARM

ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team continued its multi-pronged relationship with the Regional Food Bank of Northeastern New York last weekend, helping out at the Patroon Land Farm. The farm supplies diverse, fresh produce for the Food Bank and 1,000 participating agencies in 23 counties.

"Helping out at the Regional Food Bank is a great chance for us to spend time as a team off the court, while giving back to the community," said co-captains senior libero Tina Ceriello and junior middle hitter Kyla Archie.

"It was nice to take a step back from our preseason training for a second to help our community," added sophomore defensive specialist Megan Mayer.

The relationship continues next with the "BackPack Program" tri-match on Saturday, September 14th.

In lieu of an admission charge, the Golden Knights will be collecting food items to benefit the Food Bank. Specific items requested include: peanut butter, jelly, granola bars, juice boxes and macaroni and cheese. The program will also be accepting monetary donations at the door to purchase these items.

Community service has always formed the heart of the Saint Rose experience. It is a direct embodiment of the "caring for thy neighbor" mantra of its founders, the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. It is also part of the NCAA Division II philosophical foundation of "Life in the Balance", which captures the multiple facets of the Division II student-athlete experience: comprehensive learning and academic development, high-level athletics competition, and community engagement.
The Regional Food Bank has been helping to feed the poor and hungry in our communities since 1982. It is the only organization of its kind in northeastern New York. The Food Bank collects large donations of food from the food industry and distributes it to charitable agencies serving hungry and disadvantaged people in 23 counties. From Plattsburgh to Newburgh, in urban, rural, and suburban communities, the Food Bank provides over 35 million pounds of food a year to 1,000 agencies.
