NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The College of Saint Rose dropped its final road regular-season game of the year with today's 3-1 setback at Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division rival Southern Connecticut State. The Golden Knights (11-24/5-16 NE10) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first, but the Owls (19-25/10-14 NE10) countered with all three of their runs in the fifth.
Â
Freshman right-hander
Cameron Flynn, and junior right-handers
Casey Krebs and
Nicholas Zuba combined to give up a mere five hits to the Owls. Sophomore right fielder
Stephan MacMeans finished 3-for-4 to lead the Golden Knights offense.
Â
Each team did all of its damage within one frame. Saint Rose got off to a good start as senior left fielder
Kenny Fils-Aime drove a two-out base hit to left-center to bring across MacMeans in the first.
Â
Two innings later, junior second baseman John Spoto smacked a two run double and senior shortstop Jim Palmer followed with an RBI single to account for the three Southern Connecticut State runs.
Â
Senior right-hander Ronnie Rossomando allowed just the run on seven hits over 8.0 innings of work to pick up the win for the Owls on their Senior Day. Rossomando also fanned seven without issuing a walk.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose caps its regular-season this weekend with a three-game NE10 division series versus New Haven. The Owls meanwhile play their regular-season finale tomorrow with a 3:30 pm home date against Pace University.
Notes: MacMeans ran his hit streak to 11 games this afternoon…He has batted .391 (18-for-46) throughout that time frame.
