ALBANY, N.Y. – American International scored all three of its runs in the first inning to upend The College of Saint Rose 3-1 in today's Northeast-10 Conference action at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
Â
The Golden Knights (11-23/5-15 NE10) got on the board in the seventh, but also left a pair on base that kept it a two-run ballgame. Saint Rose then put the leadoff runner on base in the ninth, but could not capitalize.
Â
Senior right-hander
Stephen Hill settled in nicely after the first. He allowed just four hits and fanned eight while issuing only a walk throughout the ensuing 6.0 innings in a tough-luck loss. Senior southpaw
Brandon Budlong came out for the eighth and surrendered only one hit throughout the final two frames. Senior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter kept up his hot bat by going 2-for-4 with a double.
Â
For the Yellow Jackets (19-21/11-13 NE10), junior right-hander Matt Costanza allowed six hits and fanned seven over the distance to chalk up his third win of the spring. Senior second baseman Brendan Carter and senior center fielder Josh Aviles each finished with a pair of hits.
Â
