GOLDEN KNIGHTS SUFFER 3-1 SETBACK TO NE10 DIVISION RIVAL AIC

ALBANY, N.Y. – American International scored all three of its runs in the first inning to upend The College of Saint Rose 3-1 in today's Northeast-10 Conference action at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex.

The Golden Knights (11-23/5-15 NE10) got on the board in the seventh, but also left a pair on base that kept it a two-run ballgame. Saint Rose then put the leadoff runner on base in the ninth, but could not capitalize.

Senior right-hander Stephen Hill settled in nicely after the first. He allowed just four hits and fanned eight while issuing only a walk throughout the ensuing 6.0 innings in a tough-luck loss. Senior southpaw Brandon Budlong came out for the eighth and surrendered only one hit throughout the final two frames. Senior first baseman Nicolas Teitter kept up his hot bat by going 2-for-4 with a double.

For the Yellow Jackets (19-21/11-13 NE10), junior right-hander Matt Costanza allowed six hits and fanned seven over the distance to chalk up his third win of the spring. Senior second baseman Brendan Carter and senior center fielder Josh Aviles each finished with a pair of hits.

Up next, Saint Rose has a make-up at Southern Connecticut State tomorrow and then returns home this weekend to close out its regular-season with a three-game NE10 division series versus New Haven. Friday's opener is set for 3:00 pm, while Saturday's Senior and Alumni Day twin-bill is slated for Noon. The Yellow Jackets close out their regular-season docket this weekend as well with a three-game division series at Pace University.
Notes: Teitter now has 16 multi-hit games on the year, including six straight…He has batted at a .654 (17-for-26) clip during that span while raising his batting average to .369 (48-for-130), third best among the NE10 leaders…Sophomore outfielder Stephan MacMeans had a pair of singles today to extend his hit streak to 10 games…He has batted .357 (15-for-42) throughout that time frame…Freshman first baseman Jack McDonald has driven in seven runs throughout his last four games…Junior second baseman Andrew Pedone was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll yesterday.
