ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose fell 5-4 to a streaking NYIT team that won its fifth straight this afternoon at Bob Bellizzi Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The game featured four lead changes throughout the first three innings before the Bears (17-5) pushed across the tying and winning runs in the seventh.
Â
Junior shortstop
Andrew Pedone finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and freshman first baseman
Jack McDonald drove a 3-2 pitch to right field for a two-run double in the first. Sophomore right fielder
Isaiah Peace also doubled.
Â
McDonald's shot afforded the Golden Knights (7-11) a 2-1 lead in the first. NYIT then added a run in the second and third innings, before Saint Rose pushed across a pair in its half of the third on a fielder's choice and an error to grab a 4-3 lead.
Â
However, that closed the scoring aside from the Bears' two runs in the seventh.
Â
Junior shortstop Ben McNeill finished 4-for-5 and junior catcher/first baseman Ryan Kuskowski went 3-for-4 with three RBI to pace NYIT, which entered the afternoon ranked third in this week's National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association East Region Poll.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns to Northeast-10 Conference action with a pair of crossover doubleheaders in New Hampshire this weekend. The Golden Knights will visit Southern New Hampshire Saturday and take on Franklin Pierce Sunday. Meanwhile, NYIT gets back to its East Coast Conference slate with a four-game weekend series versus Bridgeport.
Notes: Saint Rose is 2-3 in one-run games this spring…Pedone has reached base in 13 consecutive games.
