PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose picked up an important 9-4 Northeast-10 Conference victory at Pace University this afternoon. Junior infielder
Shannon Moore led the charge by going 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored.
"I'm proud of the girls for grinding out a quality win," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Abby Arceneaux. "Our defense, offense and pitching were strong for all seven innings."
The Golden Knights (13-22/6-13 NE10) took advantage of some Pace first-inning miscues to score four runs. Freshman right-hander
Samantha Allen helped herself with an RBI double in the frame.
Pace (18-19/9-14 NE10), who had its nine-game winning streak snapped, quickly responded in the bottom half, cutting the deficit in half on a two-run double by sophomore designated player Niyah Brown.
Saint Rose got the pair of runs back in the second. After sophomore outfielder
Alissa Folts stole home successfully, Moore doubled home senior infielder
Briana Bowen with one out.
The Golden Knights continued to add on. In the fourth inning, sophomore infielder
Ryane Brush blasted a solo homer to left and sophomore catcher
Katie Drogo drove in Moore with a double. Saint Rose added an unearned run in the fifth to go up 9-3.
Allen permitted just five hits and struck out six in her complete game victory (Win, 7-12).
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are scheduled to host Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. The 4:00 pm doubleheader will serve as the team's "Senior Day". Meanwhile, Pace University heads to Springfield, Mass. for a 3:00 pm contest tomorrow.
