GOLDEN KNIGHTS SPLIT WITH MERCY

Myler Goes 7-for-7 in Non-Conference Doubleheader

1
ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose split today's non-conference doubleheader with Mercy. The Golden Knights (12-19) won the opener 6-1 before dropping the nightcap 8-4.

Saint Rose totaled 11 hits in the victory. Senior outfielder Astasia Myler led the way by going 4-for-4 with two runs scored.

The Golden Knights jumped on the visiting Mavericks early, plating three first-inning runs. Sophomore infielders Ryane Brush and Savanna Liverio drove in runs in the frame.

After Mercy (21-23) pushed across an unearned run in the third, Saint Rose scored twice in the bottom half. Junior right-hander Kylee Warner laced an RBI single to highlight the outburst

The Mavericks had a great opportunity in the fifth, loading the bases with one out. However, Warner (W, 3-3), with the help of her defense, got out of the jam. She pitched into the sixth before freshman right-hander Samantha Allen finished up.

Both squads scored three runs in the first inning of the nightcap. After Mercy tallied three unearned markers, it took just three batters for the Golden Knights to tie the contest. Senior infielder Briana Bowen led off with a single and came around to score on a Myler double. Brush followed by clearing the center field fence.

The Mavericks took the lead with a three-run third and were threatening in the fourth, putting runners on second and third with one out. Sophomore right-hander Emily Kurtzner came in to get out of the jam, fanning the first two hitters she faced. Mercy added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.

Saint Rose put up a fight in the seventh, getting multiple runners on base and scoring a run in the late rally.

Myler was 3-for-3 with an RBI and run scored to lead the Golden Knights in the setback.  She finished the day a perfect 7-for-7 with three runs scored.

Both teams are in action on Friday afternoon. Saint Rose heads to Pleasantville, N.Y. to begin a three-game series with Pace University. The NE10 contest will begin at 3:00 pm.  Meanwhile, Mercy has a non-conference doubleheader at Bloomfield.
Notes: Bowen was named to Monday's Northeast-10 Conference weekly honor roll...She tops the Golden Knights with a .398 batting average.
