SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The College of Saint Rose took advantage of some outstanding pitching and timely hitting to upend host Northeast-10 Conference Southwest Division leader American International 2-1 today. The Golden Knights (9-18/5-10 NE10) bounced back from a 1-0 deficit by scoring twice in the third.
Â
Senior right fielder
Stephan MacMeans drove a two-run double to right to provide enough breathing room for freshman right-hander
Cameron Flynn and senior southpaw
Brandon Budlong who limited the Yellow Jackets (14-16/7-8 NE10) to three hits the rest of the way.
Â
"It was great to win a tight game. Freshman
Cameron Flynn and senior
Brandon Budlong really stepped up and our defense played great. Junior
Joe Guerette has been saying out loud for the last few games 'All gas, no brakes' and the guys are starting to play with that sense of urgency that we need. It was a good win," said head coach
Wayne Jones.
Â
Flynn allowed just an unearned run in 6.0 inning to run his record to 2-2, while Budlong tossed 3.0 innings of shutout ball to collect the save.
Â
Junior designated hitter Matt Krause and freshman shortstop Cam DeFeo had two hits apiece for American International (14-6/7-8 NE10), which had its three-game win streak snapped.
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights are back on the road tomorrow with a 3:30 pm non-league date at NYIT on Long Island. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets host Assumption Thursday at 3:30 pm as well.
Notes: Senior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll yesterday.
