CLERMONT, Fla. – The College of Saint Rose earned a pair of comeback PFX Spring Games victories today. The Golden Knights (4-4) defeated the University of Mary 6-3 and Western Oregon 3-1.
"A couple of hard-fought gritty wins," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Abby Arceneaux. "We played stingy defense, our pitchers threw well and the bats provided some timely hits."
After Mary (5-8) put across a run in each of the first three innings to hold an early 3-0 lead, the Golden Knights got on the board in their half of the third. Senior infielder
Briana Bowen, who was named the Northeast-10 Conference Player of the Week earlier today, lofted a sacrifice fly to center to score junior right-hander
Kylee Warner.
Sophomore infielder
Savanna Liverio knotted the game in the fourth with a two-run homer. The Golden Knights used the combination of timely hitting and Marauders' miscues to score three runs in the fifth.
Mary made things interesting, getting a pair of runners on base to bring the tying run to the plate in both the sixth and seventh. However, freshman right-hander
Samantha Allen, the reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week, pitched out of trouble on both occasions for the save.
The Golden Knights scored three fifth inning runs against Western Oregon (7-3). Sophomore infielder
Ryane Brush plated two with an RBI single. Liverio followed with a two-out RBI single.
Senior outfielder
Astasia Myler topped the Golden Knight attack with three hits in the sweep.
Saint Rose is scheduled to play Wheeling Jesuit at 1:45 pm and Concordia-Saint Paul at 4:00 pm tomorrow.
Notes: Bowen and Allen were chosen the Northeast-10 Conference Player and Rookie of the Week respectively earlier today...Myler was named to the honor roll.
