CARY, N.C. – The College of Saint Rose jumped out to a 9-0 lead after two innings on the way to Saturday night's 14-7 victory versus Mansfield at the U.S.A. Baseball National Training Complex. The game did not begin for nearly two and a half hours after its scheduled 6:30 pm start as the Mounties (1-5) fell 7-6 in 18 innings to Findlay earlier in the day.
Â
Five Golden Knights (4-5) had at least two hits including senior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and two runs scored. Senior center fielder
Alexander Koshgarian, junior shortstop
Andrew Pedone, junior catcher
Jon Montesanti, and sophomore second baseman
Remington Almarante each had a pair of hits.
Â
On the hill, senior left-hander
Brandon Budlong allowed three runs in 5.0 innings of work to pick up the win, while junior right-hander
Nicholas Zuba hurled 2.2 innings of one-hit, shutout ball and fanned five to pick up his first save in a Saint Rose uniform.
Â
The Golden Knights took advantage of three walks, a hit batsman, and an error to score four times in the first. Teitter and Montesanti smacked back-to-back, two-run doubles and sophomore right fielder
Stephan MacMeans added a run scoring double as well to highlight the second.
Â
Looking ahead, these two teams will meet again Sunday at the National Training Complex. First pitch is set for 9:30 am. Saint Rose will wrap up its spring break trip with a 1:30 pm game versus Dominican.
