GOLDEN KNIGHTS UPENDED AT LE MOYNE, 64-58

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose was upended 64-58 by Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne this afternoon.

Senior guard Isa Vara de Rey topped the Golden Knights (11-15/4-15 NE10) with 17 points on 7-of-15 shooting. The trio of senior guard Ashley Vanderwall, senior forward Karissa Birthwright and junior forward Leah Dollard added eight points apiece.

Le Moyne (21-4/15-4 NE10), slotted fourth in the opening NCAA East Regional rankings, put four players in twin figures. Junior guard McKayla Roberts led the way with 22 points. Sophomore guard Liz Millea had 12, while freshman forward Jenna Zimmerman and forward Corinne Poitevien, a graduate student, each scored 11.

The Dolphins tallied 11 of the opening 13 points of the matinee to hold a 14-5 advantage. Saint Rose responded with an 11-2 run sandwiched around the end of the first period to knot the contest at 18 early in the second quarter. The remainder of the half was tight, with Le Moyne holding a 30-25 lead at the intermission.

Both squads totaled 18 points in the third period, giving the Dolphins a 48-43 lead entering the final stanza. Birthwright converted a layup with 7:46 remaining to make it a three-point game at 50-47. Le Moyne answered with the next 10 points for a double-digit advantage.

The Golden Knights, which trimmed the deficit to six with less than a minute remaining, were forced to foul. However, Millea knocked down some important foul shots to seal it.

Saint Rose closes the season at home Tuesday evening vs. Pace.  Tip-off is slated for 5:30 pm. Fans that are unable to make it to Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium to attend the season finale can follow all the action live on gogoldenknights.tv on NE10 NOW or follow along with live stats. Meanwhile, Le Moyne travels to Connecticut to face New Haven.
Notes: Birthwright currently has 998 career points, just two away from being the 21st Saint Rose player to eclipse the 1,000 point mark...Vanderwall now has 983 career points.
