FOURTH QUARTER RALLY FALLS SHORT

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose cut a 16-point fourth quarter deficit to single digits twice before falling 68-55 to visiting American International this evening at the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium.

Senior guard Ashley Vanderwall led the Golden Knights (11-14/4-14 NE10) with 13 points. Senior forward Karissa Birthwright added 11 points on 5-of-9 shooting.

Senior forward/center Dana Watts recorded a season-high 37 points on 14-of-19 shooting and 12 rebounds en route to her 16th "double-double" of the season for the Yellow Jackets (15-11/10-8 NE10) which ran their win streak to five games. The Northeast-10 Conference scoring leader, who went 6-for-6 at the foul line and 3-of-3 from beyond the arc, also registered four steals. The visitors used an early 9-0 run to gain control of the NE10 contest, holding an 11-4 lead with 5:06 to go in the opening period. American International, on the strength of a 26-13 first half rebounding margin, including 11-2 on the offensive glass, increased its advantage with a 12-2 run to start the second quarter. The Golden Knights, trailing by 15, 31-16, with 3:38 remaining before intermission, closed the half on a 11-4 stretch to go into the locker room down by just eight, 35-28.

American International slowly built up its lead in the third to hold a 56-40 advantage entering the final frame. Saint Rose commenced the stanza with a 10-2 jaunt to make it an eight-point game with 6:40 to go. The Yellow Jackets, which grabbed 15 offensive rebounds for a 12-0 advantage in second-chance points, reeled off the ensuing 10 points to remove just about any doubt about the final outcome.
