SAINT ROSE UPENDED BY ADELPHI, 71-66

ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose erased a six-point fourth quarter deficit to tie the score with 1:23 remaining before falling to visiting Adelphi 71-66 in tonight's Northeast-10 Conference game.

Senior guard Ashley Vanderwall topped the Golden Knights (11-12/4-12 NE10) with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The senior guard, who totaled all of her points after halftime, was 5-of-6 from beyond the arc. Senior guard Isa Vara de Rey added 16 points in the setback. The Saint Rose point guard, who went a perfect 6-of-6 at the foul line, handed out a career-high eight assists.

Adelphi (12-12/9-8 NE10), now winners of three-straight, received a "double-double" of 32 points and 11 rebounds from senior guard Niajah Morgan. Morgan, who was 14-of-28 from the field, was one of three Panthers to tally twin figures. Junior forward Leonie Edringer and junior guard Fallyn Stephens tossed in 12 points apiece. Edringer also grabbed 11 boards for a "double-double".

Saint Rose commenced the contest on a 7-0 run, only for Adelphi to answer with a 10-0 stretch of its own. The Golden Knights, which led 14-13 after the first quarter, opened up a 19-13 advantage midway through the second period. The Panthers concluded the stanza on an 18-8 run to hold a 31-27 lead going into the break.

The hosts began the second half on a 12-4 run to earn a four-point, 39-35, advantage. Adelphi responded to garner a one-point, 48-47, lead heading the final period.

The Panthers stretched the advantage to six, 58-52, when Morgan knocked down a jumper with 6:32 remaining. Saint Rose quickly responded. After Vara de Rey made a pair of foul shots, Vanderwall made a three from the top of the arc to again make it a one-point contest, 58-57, with 5:04 to go.

The Golden Knights and Panthers continued to battle down the stretch of the important league game.

Another Vanderwall trey with 2:46 left gave Saint Rose a 64-63 advantage, its first since the 8:59 mark of the final frame.

From there, the NE10 Southwest Division contest was deadlocked on a pair of occasions, including at 66 with 1:23 remaining.

After an Adelphi make at the foul line, Morgan made another jumper in the paint to give the visitors a 69-66 lead with 17 seconds on the clock. Following the bucket, Saint Rose called timeout to draw up a play. Vara de Rey had a good look, but her three-point attempt with two seconds left was off the mark.

Adelphi sophomore guard Katie Murphy was fouled on the ensuing in-bounds play.  She made both free throws for the final margin.

Both teams have road NE10 games on Saturday at 1:30 pm. Saint Rose returns to Connecticut for the second-consecutive weekend, taking on New Haven. Fans that are unable to attend the game can follow all the action live on NE10NOW.tv or follow along with live stats.  Meanwhile, Adelphi plays at Pace University.
