ALBANY, N.Y.-The College of Saint Rose shot 51.4 percent (38-for-74) from the floor, turned the ball over just five times, and put four players in double-figures to upend visiting Chestnut Hill 98-87 in tonight's season-opener for both squads.

Sophomore forward
Sekou Sylla recorded a monster "double-double" of a career-high 34 points to go with 14 rebounds, while finishing 15-for-22 from the floor. Freshman guard
Cartier Bowman also registered a "double-double" behind 14 points and 11 rebounds, while junior guard
Adam Anderson dropped in 22 points. Sophomore guard
Tyler Washington contributed 11 and senior guard
Michael Wearne passed around five assists, with only one turnover, and added five points.

"I thought our team played really tough tonight. It was nice to get a win to start the season. Sekou had a really good night and I thought everyone that played made a contribution. It was nice to see the guys compete together. We need to continue to grow and improve as the season goes forward," said head coach

The game was close throughout with 22 lead changes and 10 ties. However, the Golden Knights (1-0) put themselves in control via an 8-0 run with 7:37 to go in the ballgame that transformed a 72-72 deadlock into an 80-72 advantage. The Griffins got no closer than five the rest of the way.

Washington knocked down a trey to ignite the jaunt and Sylla finished inside, before completing a three-point play to cap it.

Junior forward Eli Barrett had 24 points and sophomore guard James Rider IV tossed in 21 to lead Chestnut Hill (0-1).

In today's first game, Bloomfield hung on to upend Le Moyne 62-59.

Saint Rose is back home tomorrow to take on Bloomfield at 4:00 pm, following the Le Moyne – Chestnut Hill encounter that is set for 2:00 pm.
