ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose ran its unbeaten stretch to three matches by upending visiting Upstate Challenge and Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne with a 2-1 come-from-behind win tonight.
Â
Each side possessed the ball for 50.0 percent of the match, but the Golden Knights engineered a 14-7 shot advantage, including an 8-3 differential in threats at frame.
Â
"This was a big win for our program and alumni tonight. Anytime you can beat the defending NE10 regular season champs and your upstate rivals you have to feel good about it. Le Moyne is very talented and organized group and a program I have a lot of respect for. I was very proud of the hard work and maturity our team displayed tonight," said head coach
John Ciano.
Â
Junior midfielder
Filippo BellúÂ ran his goal scoring streak to three matches by providing the game-winner in the opening eight minutes of the second half. Junior back
Andrew Lule tied it 1-1 with just under four minutes left in the first stanza after the Dolphins (6-4/2-3 NE10) had struck at the 9:20 mark.
Â
Bellu positioned himself in the middle of the area and got in the air to head home a quick cross off the right flank from freshman forward
Daniel Rechni after the latter collected a pass from freshman back
Nick Koenig.
Â
Earlier, Lule dribbled down the left side and penetrated into the box before slipping his shot just inside the far post.
Â
Le Moyne went up 1-0 when freshman midfielder Tome Henne one-timed a feed off the right side from junior midfielder Robert Rohrhirsch that ricocheted off the bottom of the crossbar and dropped down just beyond the goal line. It was not initially ruled a goal until the referee consulted with the linesman to confirm an early advantage for the Dolphins.
Â
Saint Rose continued to create opportunities after going ahead by outshooting Le Moyne 9-3 throughout the final 30 minutes. The Dolphins managed to create a pair of corner kick chances in the final 13 minutes, but they could not develop any scoring chances off of them.
Â
Going forward, both sides have 3:00 pm conference road dates Saturday. The Golden Knights head to Manchester, N.H. to face Saint Anselm, while the Dolphins travel to Worcester, Mass. to meet Assumption.
