ALBANY, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose was two seconds away from securing a 2-1 come-from-behind victory against one of the Northeast-10 Conference's most prestigious programs today, but visiting Southern New Hampshire took advantage a direct kick to force overtime and ultimately head out with a point in the conference standings.
Â
"I couldn't be prouder of the effort the team put forth tonight! This was a well-earned point against a very talented Southern New Hampshire team. There were so many amazing performances tonight. I was so just proud," said head coach
John Ciano regarding the 2-2 draw.
Â
Midfielder Joao Brum, a graduate student, converted the final goal when he drove his shot from just outside the area into the top left corner after the Golden Knights (6-2-1/2-1-1 NE10) were whistled for a foul.
Â
Saint Rose appeared to be in great shape up until then as sophomore midfielder
Filippo Bellú one-timed a deflected ball inside the box to tie the game 1-1 with 12 minutes expired in the second half.
Â
Junior midfielders Oskar Aaströem and
Andrew Lule then created space deep in the offensive end with two quick passes that found their way to freshman midfielder
Josh Elliott who converted from the middle of the area for his first goal in a Golden Knights uniform.
Â
In the first half, junior forward Nadjib Chibout put Southern New Hampshire (3-4-2/1-3-1 NE10) ahead with 26:18 elapsed after he one-timed a square pass on the right flank from senior forward Michael Goncalves.
Â
Between the posts, Saint Rose sophomore
Ryan Henning and Penmen sophomore Patrick Quinn each made two of their four saves in the second overtime as each side engineered potential game-ending scenarios. Sophomore midfielder
Harry SÖederlind rifled a low shot in the opening minute, but Quinn came off his line and stretched low to his left to deny the opportunity. Meanwhile, Henning twice stopped Brum on-target threats throughout the final 10 minutes.
Â
Overall, the Penmen manufactured a 23-9 shot advantage although the shots-on-goal stood at six apiece.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Wednesday to face Upstate Challenge and NE10 rival Le Moyne at 7:00 pm. Southern New Hampshire is back on the pitch a week from today with a 7:00 pm home conference date with American International.

Strength in Numbers Foundation Day: Saint Rose teamed with Strength in Numbers today, a 501(c)(3) organization created by the family of former men's soccer student-athlete Blake Snyder ('17) to honor the legacy of their husband and father, Paul Snyder, who died October 29, 2018 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Strength in Numbers has been created with the purpose of giving through the legacy of Paul A. Snyder. Target recipients will be children and families of those suffering from disease and terminal illness to allow those impacted to find relief toward expense or joy in a special event. The Snyder family was gracious recipients during their time of need and the sole mission of Strength in Numbers is to "pay it forward." You can nominate a recipient by visiting their
website. The organization is conducting fundraising events throughout the year to enable it to provide the necessary resources for its recipients. Information regarding fundraising can be found on their website as well as their other social media platforms
