GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose, ranked #12 in the latest United Soccer Coaches National Poll, solidified itself as a dangerous postseason contender with tonight's 3-0 win at a surging Northeast-10 Conference rival Adelphi. The host Panthers (9-4-1/8-3-1 NE10) came into the evening having not lost in eight of their last nine matches, while boasting a league best 0.81 team goals-against-average.
Â
Regardless, Saint Rose, coming off Saturday's 3-2 setback at #24 Southern New Hampshire, pounced in the opening five minutes and tacked on two more with six different players accounting for at least a point.
Â
Senior forward
Nina Predanic had a goal and an assist, while freshman midfielder
Sanna Rein and senior forward
Caitlyn Dabagian also deposited the ball behind the goal line. Senior back
Deanna Trongone, senior midfielder
Morgan Burchhardt, and freshman forward
Olivia Boucher each helped design a strike. Junior keeper
Marika Laurendeau recorded five saves throughout the evening.
Â
Overall, the Golden Knights (12-2-1/8-2-1 NE10) engineered a 15-8 shot advantage, including a 9-5 edge in on-target attempts.
Â
Rein delivered what proved to be the game-winner with a mere 4:58 elapsed when she finished a free kick that Trongone initiated. Predanic and Burchhardt, the country's only pair of 100-point scorers, linked up at the 32:02 mark to make it a 2-0 affair at halftime. Dabagian then struck with 54:42 expired with Predanic and Boucher being credited with assists.
Â
Looking ahead, both sides have their penultimate regular-season matches Saturday. The Golden Knights have a 2:00 pm meeting at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven, while the Panthers have a 1:00 pm date at Assumption in Worcester, Mass.
