GOLDEN KNIGHTS GRAB KEY NE10 VICTORY

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose chalked up a key Northeast-10 Conference victory with today's 2-0 triumph against visiting Bentley in a match that pitted a pair of sides with postseason aspirations. In the process, the Golden Knights snapped a two-match skid.

The Falcons (8-5-0/6-3-0 NE10) arrived in the Capital District having won four of their previous five games. Saint Rose (9-4-1/5-3-1 NE10) was up to the task though as its defense kept a Falcons attack, which featured two of the conference's top-five scoring threats, in check all afternoon.

"This was a great win over a very talented and competitive Bentley team. We were disappointed about a few of our recent results, so I was really proud of the way the boys bounced back and played a complete 90 minutes," said head coach John Ciano.

Freshman forward Hilmar Halldorsson scored both Golden Knights goals to account for his team-leading seventh and eighth strikes of the season. Senior keeper Gianni Carillo recorded four saves, three in the second half, in his first start of 2019.

Halldorsson scored what proved to be the game-winner with 34:15 gone by when he ran onto a through ball from sophomore midfielder Simari Smith, took a coupled a dribbles to the area, and rolled his shot inside the far-low left post. He then added an insurance marker with 87:17 elapsed when he dribbled in a lone on a counter and finished to dent the Falcons momentum as they pressed forward while seeking the equalizer.

Overall, Saint Rose manufactured a 20-11 shot advantage, including an 8-4 differential in threats on target, and generated seven corners, while yielding six.

Going forward, both sides have home conference dates Tuesday. The Golden Knights meet Saint Michael's at 7:00 pm, while the Falcons face Southern Connecticut State at 3:00 pm.
