SAINT ROSE SECURES NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP BERTH AND HITS 10-WIN MARK FOR THE FIRST TIME

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose secured a berth in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference Championship Tournament with tonight's 1-0 victory against visiting league rival Saint Michael's.

In the process, the Golden Knights (10-4-1/6-3-1 NE10) reached the 10-win mark for the first time in the program's 38-year history. Saint Rose previously posted nine wins in 1989 and 1990, going 9-11 and 9-8 respectively when it was still an NAIA member.

"This was a great win tonight for our program. I'm so happy for the guys as we clinched the playoffs. Saint Michael's is a well-coached and very organized team," said head coach John Ciano. "We're looking forward to getting back to training and improving."

Tonight's milestones came through with a methodically paced match where the difference proved to be a converted penalty kick by senior midfielder Victor Goncalves-Rocha with 14:43 gone by following a foul in the area. It marked his third strike of the season.

Overall, the Golden Knights manufactured a 14-4 shot advantage, including a 6-0 on-target differential, and maintained possession for 58 percent of the match.

Looking ahead, both sides return to action with league matches Saturday. The Golden Knights host American International for Senior Day. Kickoff is set for 4:00 pm. Meanwhile, Saint Michael's heads to North Easton, Mass. to face Stonehill at 11:00 am.
