SAINT ROSE EDGED BY HOST SAINT MICHAEL'S

COLCHESTER, VT–The College of Saint Rose rallied from a 15-point deficit early in the second half, but could not get over the final hurdle during tonight's 70-64 setback at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's. The Purple Knights (5-8/2-6 NE10) outscored the Golden Knights 20-9 from the free throw line.

Junior guard Michael Wearne tossed in a career-high 15 points in 24 minutes of reserve duty to lead Saint Rose (5-9/2-5 NE10). Sophomore guard Adam Anderson and senior forward Matt Cerutti scored 14 and 11 respectively. The latter also hauled in six rebounds.

The Golden Knights whittled their deficit to four, 44-40, with 9:38 to go after Anderson canned a pair from the charity stripe and then hung around the rest of the way. It was a five-point game, 49-44, with 7:05 remaining after Anderson converted inside. Saint Rose was still within seven, 59-52, with 2:08 showing on the clock when Wearne finished a fast break.

However, the Golden Knights were forced to foul at that juncture and the Purple Knights (5-8/2-6 NE10) took advantage by going 11-for-12 from the stripe the rest of the way.

Senior guard Levi Holmes III went 4-for-7 from the arc and 12-for-12 from the free throw line to finish with 32 points for Saint Michael's. Junior guard Jordan Guzman added 10 points and seven rebounds.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose returns home Saturday to face nationally ranked Bentley in the second half of an NE10 doubleheader. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Fans unable to travel to the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium may view the game live on gogoldenknights.tv on NE10Now. Live stats may be accessed HERE. Meanwhile, the Purple Knights travel to Springfield, Mass. Saturday for a 3:30 pm league meeting at American International.
Notes: Cerutti has been in double-figures in each of the last nine games, while Anderson has pulled off the feat in each of the last eight…The Golden Knights are home for only the third time in 43 days on Saturday.
