WORCESTER, Mass. .- The College of Saint Rose held off host Assumption to chalk up an 82-75 Northeast-10 Conference triumph this afternoon. The Golden Knights (8-11/5-7 NE10) shot 54.2 percent (32-for-59) from the floor, put four players in double-figures scoring, and outscored the Greyhounds 46-24 in the key to snap a two-game skid.
"We really established ourselves inside the paint and made some timely baskets down the stretch to seal the win. I'm happy for our guys. It was a good bounce back game," said Head Coach
Mike Perno.
The contest was close throughout with five ties and 12 lead changes, but Saint Rose was in the black the entire second half. Still, the Greyhounds pulled to within three on a like number of occasions in the final 20 minutes.
However, sophomore guard
Adam Anderson knocked down a jumper to make it 72-63 Golden Knights with 2:06 to go. Assumption was then forced to foul, but Saint Rose thwarted the tactic by going 10-for-10 from the free throw line the rest of the way.
Anderson and senior forward
Matt Cerutti led the Golden Knights with 21 and 18 points respectively. Senior guard
Shane Herrity scored 13 of his 17 points after halftime, while freshman forward
Sekou Sylla registered his fifth double-double of the year behind 11 points and 12 rebounds in 26 minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Matthew Kelly went 5-for-8 from the arc on the way to a game-high 26 points for the Greyhounds (6-13/2-10 NE10).
Going forward, Saint Rose returns home Wednesday to host #14/#18 Saint Anselm for Academic and Athletics Night. Tip-off for the second half of the conference doubleheader is set for 7:30 pm. The game may be viewed live on
