ALBANY–The College of Saint Rose opened up a 21 point lead throughout the initial six minutes and was never really threatened in tonight's 89-72 victory against a streaking East Stroudsburg squad that had not lost since opening weekend.
Â
The Golden Knights (5-8) shot 57.1 percent (32-for-56) from the floor, including 61.9 percent (13-for-21) from the arc, and held the Warriors (9-3) to 38.5 percent (25-for-65) shooting.
Â
"I thought our defensive effort was really solid. We made 11 threes in the first half and that really sparked our scoring. We were then able to finish off a very good team that had won nine straight coming into tonight," said head coach
Mike Perno.
Â
Senior guard
Shane Herrity went 5-for-7 from the arc on the way to a season-high 23 points, which led four Saint Rose double-digit scorers. Freshman forward
Sekou Sylla and senior forward
Matt Cerutti tossed in 16 apiece, while sophomore guard
Adam Anderson finished with 15. Cerutti also hauled in seven rebounds and tied his career best with five assists, while burying all six of his field goal attempts.
Â
Freshman forward Ryan Smith finished with 13 points and 11 rebounds to lead East Stroudsburg.
Â
The Golden Knights knocked down four, 3-pointers throughout the initial 3:32 to take a 10 point, 12-2, lead. They extended the advantage to 28, 36-8, with 9:04 to go before the break when Anderson canned another trey to seemingly remove any doubt about the outcome. Saint Rose eventually boosted its cushion to 35, 72-37, midway through the second stanza.
Â
Looking ahead, the Golden Knights have this weekend off before returning to Northeast-10 Conference action Wednesday, January 9 with a 7:30 pm meeting at Saint Michael's in Colchester, Vt. Meanwhile, East Stroudsburg returns to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action Saturday with a 3:00 pm date at #25 Shippensburg.
