ALBANY, N.Y. – A trio from The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team registered 10 or more kills in tonight's 3-1 home victory vs.
Northeast-10 Conference rival Le Moyne. The Golden Knights earned a point in the
Upstate Challenge by scores of 25-19, 25-14, 23-25 and 25-21.
Senior middle hitter
Shayna Webber led Saint Rose (10-6/1-1 NE10) with 16 kills on .469 hitting. Junior outside hitter
Stevie Schweitzer added 15 kills and 10 digs for her fifth "double-double" of the fall, while sophomore middle hitter
Kyla Archie tossed in 10 kills.
"We spread our offense around tonight," said Saint Rose Head Coach
Vanessa Volpe-Rivera. "We were able to execute our game plan well and quickly able to make adjustments. Thank you to all the students that came out to support us in the Upstate Challenge match."
Senior setter
Sam Kubik dished out 38 assists to pass Theresa Staulo '11 for third on the program's career assist list. She also completed her fourth "double-double" of the season by elevating 18 Le Moyne attacks. Junior libero
Tina Ceriello, who was named the NE10 Libero of the Week earlier today, totaled a game-high 26 digs in the win.
Le Moyne (7-6/0-4 NE10) received 10 kills and 10 digs from senior right side Jessica Miller. Sophomore setter Emily Yancone tallied 33 assists and 11 digs, while senior libero Mikayla Porr had 19 digs.
Down two early in the opening set, Saint Rose used a 9-2 run to turn the tide. Sophomore outside hitter
Brenna Goebel put down three-consecutive Kubik feeds in the jaunt. After Le Moyne rallied to make it 18-16 Saint Rose, back-to-back Webber kills stemmed the visitor's momentum. The Golden Knights hit .355 to take a 2-0 lead before Le Moyne extended the match in a tightly-contested third set. Saint Rose, down 23-18 in the frame, capitalized on four-straight Dolphin miscues to make it 23-23. However, a kill by senior outside hitter Marguerite Dillon, who led Le Moyne with 11 kills, and a Saint Rose attack error continued the rivalry match. The see-saw fourth set was tied at 20 before the Golden Knights forced Le Moyne into four attack errors late.
Looking ahead, NE10 play continues on Friday when Saint Rose travels to Garden City, N.Y. to face Adelphi. Le Moyne plays next at Assumption on Saturday.
Upstate Challenge: Le Moyne and Saint Rose announced the formation of the Upstate Challenge rivalry series in the fall of 2011. The two schools square off in 16 sports in which they compete head-to-head in the regular season or during the NE-10 Championship. The winner of the series is awarded the 'Upstate Challenge' trophy. The competition originally included 14 sports, but grew to 16 at the outset of the 2014-15 season after the Dolphins added track and field programs. The all-time series stands at 3-1-3 in favor of Le Moyne.
