SAINT ROSE SWEPT AT NEW HAVEN

Kubik finishes a dig short of a "double-double" in NE10 opener.

WEST HAVEN, Conn. - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team dropped its Northeast-10 Conference opener, 3-0, at New Haven tonight. The Golden Knights (8-6/0-1 NE10) fell to the reigning NE10 and NCAA East Regional Champions by scores of 26-24, 25-18, 25-17.

Junior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer topped Saint Rose with nine kills, while senior middle hitter Shayna Webber added six kills on .357 hitting. Senior setter Sam Kubik finished a dig short of a "double-double", totaling 29 assists and nine digs. Junior libero Tina Ceriello led all players with 21 digs in defeat.

After coming back from a 24-21 deficit in the opening set, New Haven, this year's NE10 preseason favorite, got out to an 8-1 lead to take the second frame. The Chargers then utilized a 10-1 closing run to wrap up their sixth sweep of the fall.

New Haven (12-3/4-0 NE10), now winners of five-straight, received nine kills from junior right side Mallory Nowicki. Senior Kristine Rios, the reigning NE10 Setter of the Week, distributed 27 assists, while senior Brianna Mirmina, who was named NE10 Libero of the Week on Tuesday, elevated 13 Saint Rose attacks.

Looking ahead, both teams are in action on Saturday afternoon. Saint Rose travels to North Andover, Mass. for a non-conference match at Merrimack at 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, New Haven heads to Syracuse to take on Le Moyne at 3:30 pm.
