GOLDEN KNIGHTS POST THIRD STRAIGHT SHUTOUT

Saint Rose remains tied atop the NE10 standings with #20 Southern New Hampshire

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose posted its third consecutive shutout and remained undefeated with tonight's 1-0 victory against visiting Northeast-10 Conference foe Franklin Pierce. In the process, the Golden Knights (6-0/3-0 NE10) extended the best start in their 37-year history and remained tied atop the league standings with 20th ranked Southern New Hampshire.

"This was a great win for our team tonight over a storied program like Franklin Pierce University. I was very pleased with how we competed and displayed some great attacking soccer against a really organized and dangerous side. We are excited to get back to training as we prepare for another difficult match on Saturday," said head coach John Ciano.

Saint Rose controlled the pace for much of the evening and senior forward Paulo Sdoia ensured the effort paid dividends with his fourth goal of the year a mere two minutes prior to halftime. Sdoia got in the air near the goal line to head home a volley off the foot of sophomore back Aaron Muia.

Sophomore midfielder Oskar Aaströem nearly doubled the score 12 minutes into the second period when he rifled a shot from inside the area that rattled the crossbar.

However, Sdoia's strike proved to be enough as junior keeper Gianni Carillo recorded his fourth clean sheet of the season and extended his unscored upon streak to 301 minutes. At the other end, junior Jadel Poon-Lewis came up with four saves for the Ravens (1-6/0-3 NE10) whose six setbacks this season have all come by one goal.

Looking ahead, both sides are back on the pitch for conference matches Saturday. Franklin Pierce has a 6:00 pm home date with Southern Connecticut State, while the Golden Knights head to Waltham, Mass. to take on Bentley at 3:00 pm.
Notes: Saint Rose is ranked #7 in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Poll for the second consecutive week…Freshman midfielder Filippo Bellú; is third among the NE10 leaders with five goals…Carillo is tied for fourth with a 0.83 goals-against-average…He was named to the NE10 weekly honor roll on Monday…The Golden Knights have outscored their opponents by a 7-1 margin in the second half, and 14-5 overall this season…They have also generated 34 corners, while yielding 22.
