SAINT ROSE SCORES FOUR UNANSWERED GOALS TO UPEND NYACK IN SEASON-OPENER

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose scored four unanswered goals to upend Nyack 4-1 in its season-opener tonight at Sullivan Field at the Plumeri Sports Complex. The Golden Knights (1-0) scored twice late in the first half and struck two more times less than four minutes apart early in the second stanza.

"I was really happy for the guys tonight. They put in a lot of hard work this preseason and I was pleased that they were able to earn the win. Nyack is a tough opponent off a big win so we knew this was going to be a tough game," said head coach John Ciano. "We are looking forward to getting back to the training ground so we can work on some things and continue to grow."

Freshman midfielder Filippo Bellú made the most his collegiate debut by scoring twice and setting up another. Senior forward Paulo Sdoia had a goal and an assist, while senior midfielder Kyle Clemens accounted for the game-winner.

The Warriors (1-1), who defeated Franklin Pierce 1-0 on the road Thursday evening, struck first though as sophomore forward Mitchell Reed one-touched home a feed from senior back Daniel Larson with 12:20 elapsed.

However, Bellú lined a home a shot from 20-yards out eight minutes later to level it 1-1. Clemens then gathered a ball and drove it inside the lower left post with four minutes remaining until intermission.

Bellú struck again when he finished a feed from Sdoia with 48:16 gone by. He then returned the favor by setting up Sdoia with a well-placed pass off the right flank at the 51:40 mark.

Overall, the Golden Knights generated a 16-9 shot advantage, including an 8-2 differential in on-target threats, and manufactured nine corners while yielding six.

Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home Tuesday for a 6:00 pm meeting with Dominican. The Warriors host Shippensburg on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
Note: Tonight's four goals are the most by the Golden Knights since they struck five times in a 5-1 victory at Roberts Wesleyan on October 9, 2013.
