SAINT ROSE FALLS TWICE AT DAEMEN VOLLEYBALL CLASSIC

Golden Knights Upended by Gannon and Lake Erie


AMHERST, N.Y. - The College of Saint Rose women's volleyball team dropped a pair of matches at the Daemen Volleyball Classic, presented by Millennium Buffalo, today. The Golden Knights (0-3) fell 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-17) to Gannon, a 2017 NCAA Semifinalist, and 3-1 to Lake Erie (24-26, 25-20, 25-21, 25-22).
 
Against Lake Erie, the Golden Knights battled back from a six-point first set deficit to earn the 26-24 opening set win. Down 24-23, right side Grace Campbell put down a feed from senior setter Sam Kubik to tie it at 24, the third post-20 deadlock of the stanza. Sophomore middle hitter Kyla Archie followed with a kill of her own, before combining with Kubik for the set-winning block. Senior middle hitter Shayna Webber recorded six kills on .750 hitting in the frame.
 
Lake Erie (2-1) used a 12-3 run to control the second set, before taking the third frame on the heels of an 11-5 jaunt. The Storm erased an 8-3 Saint Rose advantage to wrap it up in four.
 
Webber topped the Golden Knights with 12 kills on .357 hitting. Junior outside hitter Stevie Schweitzer added 11 kills to go along with 17 digs and three service aces. Kubik distributed 40 assists, while junior libero Tina Ceriello had 32 digs.
 
Sophomore right side Hailey Neilsen led Lake Erie with 19 kills in the win. The Storm, received "double-doubles" from junior outside hitter Crystal Kedroske and junior setter Alexis Thomas. Kedroske accumulated 10 kills and 20 digs, while Thomas dished out 39 assists and elevated 16 Saint Rose attacks.
 
Earlier in the day, Gannon (2-0) received eight kills apiece from sophomore middle hitter Aubree Lanman and junior outside hitter Alexandra Smith. Smith recorded 13 digs while Lanman hit .583. As a team, Gannon hit .224.
Campbell led Saint Rose with five kills and Ceriello registered 20 digs.
               
Saint Rose has its home opener vs. Mercy on Wednesday night at 6:00 pm. Gannon and Lake Erie are off until weekend tournaments. Gannon will compete at the Tony Banner (Clarion) Invitational, while Lake Erie is at the Indiana (Pa.) Tournament.
