SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior outfielder
Katie Shevlin was 5-for-7 with four RBI but The College of Saint Rose softball team was swept in this afternoon's doubleheader at American International. The Golden Knights (13-21/7-10 NE10) lost the
Northeast-10 Conference game 6-3 before dropping the non-league game 15-8.
The Yellow Jackets (7-29/3-13 NE10) used a five-run fifth to take the opener. Shevlin was 2-for-3 with two RBI for the visitors.
Saint Rose plated three runs in the first inning of the nightcap. Shevlin singled in junior infielder
Briana Bowen with one out. She came around to score on a home run by freshman infielder
Ryane Brush. From there, American International scored the next 13 runs, three in the first, second and third, and four in the fourth.
The Golden Knights escaped an early ending by totaling four runs in the fifth. Brush plated a pair with a one-out double. Junior infielder
Beth Jones and senior infielder
Taylor Solomon also had RBI hits in the frame.
Brush finished the nightcap 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored, while Shevlin was 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored.
Both teams are in action later this week. The Golden Knights are scheduled to go to Syracuse tomorrow for an NE10 twin bill. American International plays four games at Southern Connecticut on Friday and Saturday.
