GOLDEN KNIGHTS SWEPT IN DOUBLEHEADER AT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE

Saint Rose Falls 8-7 (8) and 2-1

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The College of Saint Rose softball team was swept in a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State this afternoon. The Golden Knights (12-18/7-8 NE10) fell by scores of 8-7 (eight innings) and 2-1.

The Owls (8-26/3-10 NE10) came back from a 6-1 fifth inning deficit to take the opener in extra innings. SCSU used a pair of homers and capitalized off some Golden Knight miscues to send the game to extras. With one out in the eighth, senior outfielder Jamie Conklin singled to short for the "walk-off" win.

Senior infielder Taylor Solomon, junior infielder Briana Bowen, and senior designated player Dana Nicoletti each went 3-for-4 for Saint Rose. Freshman infielder Ryane Brush added three RBI, two hits in five at-bats, a home run and a run scored.

After the Golden Knights pushed across an unearned run in the first inning of the nightcap, Southern Connecticut State responded with its two runs in the second. The Owls had an opportunity to tack on some insurance in the sixth, loading the bases with one out. Freshman right-hander Emily Kurtzner induced a fielder's choice and fly out to get out of the jam. Senior catcher Sydney Cimini began the seventh inning with a single to right-center, but was unable to advance from there. All told, the teams combined to leave 12 on base from the third inning on.

Cimini went 3-for-3 in the second game, while junior infielder Beth Jones was 2-for-2.

The two teams are scheduled to play a doubleheader again tomorrow.
