ALBANY, N.Y. – Senior midfielder
Matt Graham, junior attack
Carter Badour and senior goalie
Liam Guiton set program records as The College of Saint Rose men's lacrosse team picked up an important 10-8
Northeast-10 Conference decision vs. Franklin Pierce this afternoon. Badour led the Golden Knights (7-7/6-4 NE10) with five goals. The co-captain now ranks seconds in the league with 36 goals, a single-season team record.
"Today's win was really big towards our goal of making the NE10 playoffs," said Badour. "It's something that's never been done before here, so the guys are really motivated to earn a berth."
Sophomore attack
Jordyn Marchiano added three goals and an assist, while Graham totaled three points on two goal and a helper. The output moved Graham, now with 133 career points, past Kevin Fleming '15 for the program's career scoring lead.
Guiton became the program's all-time saves leader in the victory, passing Nick Longo '15 with his eighth stop of the game early in the third quarter. He finished with 13 saves on the afternoon. In the X, junior midfielder
Nicolas Johnson and senior midfielder
Lucas Frese combined to win 17-of-21 face-offs.
"This afternoon was a team win," said Guiton. "Nicolas and Lucas had big face-off wins to keep our momentum. The records are nice but something we'll look back on after the season ends. Right now, we're on on a journey to make history."
The Golden Knights opened some breathing room by outscoring the visitors 5-2 across the opening 13:34 of the third quarter. The Ravens (5-7/3-7 NE10), down 9-5 at that point, were able to cut it to just a two-goal contest with 10:55 remaining. However, Graham converted a feed from freshman midfielder
Jack Pemrick just 46 seconds later to ensure that Saint Rose maintained control.
Franklin Pierce received four points from senior midfielder Sean Delea. Junior attacks Jake Castorf and Luke Tracy each netted two goals, while freshman goalie Justin Lorenzo made 22 saves to keep the Ravens in striking distance.
The NE10 regular season concludes on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights host Saint Anselm, while Franklin Pierce is at Adelphi. Before the game vs. the Hawks, Saint Rose will host Saint Thomas Aquinas in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon.
