SAINT ROSE SPLITS WITH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL

Golden Knights Take Nightcap 9-0

ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose softball team split a home Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with American International this afternoon. The Golden Knights (12-16/7-6 NE10) took the second game 9-0 (five innings) after dropping the first game 11-2. Junior outfielder Astasia Myler went a combined 5-for-6 with four runs scored and an RBI to lead the Saint Rose offense.

The Yellow Jackets (5-26/2-10 NE10)  totaled their 11 runs in the final four innings to take the opener. Senior catcher Jamie Mainez drove in five runs as part of a 3-for-5 afternoon in the win.

Saint Rose got on the board quickly in the first game. Freshman infielder Ryane Brush singled home senior designated player Dana Nicoletti with two outs.

American International plated four-runs in the fourth. Mainez lofted a two-run homer to left center, before sophomore pinch-hitter Jess Lingenberg scored a pair with a single through the left side.

The Golden Knights got one back in its half of the inning. Myler led off with a triple and came around to score on a single by senior infielder Taylor Solomon.

American International increased its advantage with seven runs in its final three at-bats.

Solomon and Myler each went 2-for-3 in the first game.

In the second game, the Golden Knights again put up a crooked number in the first inning, scoring four unearned runs. Junior infielder Briana Bowen had the big hit of the inning, emptying the loaded bases with a two-out double. Saint Rose added three more runs in the second. Myler drove an RBI single before senior catcher Sydney Cimini doubled home a pair. Myler collected her third hit of the nightcap with a fourth inning lead-off single. She scored when Brush blasted a two-run homer into the left-field net.

Both teams have NE10 games on deck. The Golden Knights will play a doubleheader at Southern Connecticut State on Saturday afternoon. American International is scheduled to host Assumption in a twin bill tomorrow.
