ALBANY – Some outstanding pitching coupled with superlative defense and timely hitting led to a key victory as The College of Saint Rose upended #17 and
Upstate Challenge rival Le Moyne 3-2 in today's
Northeast-10 Conference game at Bob Belizzi Field.
"This was a great team win. We got a gutsy hard-nosed performance from junior left-hander
Greg Musk, we played great defense and got the job done at the plate. It was an important divisional win against a very good team and a positive step towards our goal of being the best squad we can be."
Musk wove another gem by fanning nine and allowing just a pair of runs on five hits in 8.2 innings of work to go to 3-1 on the year. Senior right-hander
Caleb Gregg preserved it by striking out the game's final batter with the tying run in scoring position.
The Golden Knights (13-15/6-7 NE10) scored all three of their runs in the fifth. Senior left fielder
Matt McKinnon belted a sacrifice fly and freshman second baseman
Francisco Infante scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of senior center fielder
Brian Uliana. Junior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter then drove a run scoring base hit up the middle.
The Dolphins (24-9-1/10-3-1 NE10) got one back in the sixth and added another in the ninth, before Gregg closed the door.
Looking ahead, tomorrow's scheduled non-league doubleheader at Queens College has been cancelled due to impending poor weather. Saint Rose heads to Pleasantville to take on Pace University, while Le Moyne travels to New Haven to meet Southern Connecticut State in a pair of NE10 three-game series this weekend.
Notes: The Golden Knights are now 4-1 at home…Teitter and McKinnon have both reached base in eight straight contests…Musk has allowed just four earned runs in his last 37.2 innings that encompass five appearances…He has fanned 32 and walked just seven in that time frame.
