GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose softball team split a doubleheader at Adelphi this afternoon. The Golden Knights (11-15/6-5 NE10) took the
Northeast-10 Conference game 6-2 in nine innings before dropping the second non-league game 10-6.
Junior infielder
Briana Bowen and freshman infielder
Ryane Brush led the Saint Rose bats in the victory. Bowen went 2-for-4 with five RBI and a run scored, while Brush was 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and scored a run.
The Golden Knights opened the scoring when Bowen plated junior outfielder
Astasia Myler on a second inning groundout. After Adelphi took the lead on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, the visitors rallied to tie the game. Bowen, down to her final strike, singled home pinch runner
Samantha LaBarbera with two outs to send the NE10 game to extras.
The Golden Knights scored four runs in the ninth. Bowen again had the big hit of the outburst, emptying the bases with a one-out double to left-center.
Freshman right-hander
Thalia Santiago pitched 9.0 innings of one-hit ball to get the win. The lone run she allowed was a home run in the fourth to senior infielder Brenna Martini, the 2016 and 2017 NE10 Player of the Year. The rookie established a personal best with eight strikeouts.
The Panthers (20-16-1/11-5-1 NE10) tallied five runs in the first and four more in the third to take the nightcap.
Freshman catcher
Liz D'Agostino drove in a pair with a two out double in the third, while senior infielder
Taylor Solomon went 2-for-3 with two runs scored for Saint Rose. Bowen added another RBI and scored a run in the non-league contest. She finished 3-for-7 with six RBI and two runs scored on the afternoon.
Both teams have NE10 Southwest Division doubleheaders next week. The Golden Knights host American International Wednesday at 3:00 pm. Adelphi receives a visit from Pace on Tuesday.
