ALBANY – The College of Saint Rose manufactured a run in the ninth inning after leaving 10 men on base during the first eight frames to upend
Northeast-10 Conference rival American International 1-0 in its home opener this afternoon.
Â
Senior center fielder
Brian Uliana delivered an infield base hit with two down that scored senior left fielder
Matt McKinnon from third base. The run afforded some well-deserved satisfaction to outstanding Golden Knights (10-14/3-6) pitching.
Â
Junior left-hander
Greg Musk tossed 8.0 innings of three-hit ball while fanning 11 and issuing just one walk. Senior right-hander
Caleb Gregg came out for the ninth and retired the Yellow Jackets (13-17/4-9 NE10) in order to set up the dramatic finish.
Â
"We played hard, didn't get down and we were able to push across a run to support two great pitching performances," said head coach
Wayne Jones.
Â
Uliana finished 3-for-5 while junior first baseman
Nicolas Teitter went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double to lead the Golden Knights offense. Sophomore right fielder Matt Krause wound up 2-for-4 for American International.
Â
Looking ahead, both squads have home NE10 divisional series on tap for this weekend. Saint Rose hosts Adelphi, while the Yellow Jackets entertain Pace.Â
Notes: Saint Rose snapped an eight-game skid today…Uliana now has nine multi-hit games this spring…Today marked his second, three-hit effort…Musk lowered his ERA to 1.54, fifth best among the NE10 leaders…He has held opponents to a .202 batting average while striking out 30 and walking just six…Musk furthermore has surrendered a mere two earned runs throughout his last four outings that cover 29.0 innings of work…Gregg has not given up a run in his last four appearances.
