ALBANY, N.Y. – Junior infielder
Briana Bowen singled home junior outfielder
Samantha LaBarbera with two outs in the eighth as The College of Saint Rose earned a 2-1
Northeast-10 Conference victory against visiting New Haven this afternoon. The walk-off win gave the Golden Knights (7-10/2-1 NE10) the rubber game of the three game series.
"I'm really proud of how we responded after yesterday's tough loss," said Saint Rose head coach
Abby Arceneaux. "Thalia, Dana and the defense showed lots of grit in the field and Bo came through in the clutch when we needed her to."
Â
Bowen went 2-for-4 with both RBI for Saint Rose.
"I was just trying to see the ball," said Bowen about her walk-off single. "She (New Haven sophomore right-hander Kylie Stonebraker) has a lot of movement so I was just trying to exaggerate my eyes down. It feels great to get the series win against a tough team."
New Haven (11-12/4-4 NE10) got on the board in the second when sophomore outfielder Catherine Vaughan doubled home senior infielder Erin Stever with two outs to take a 1-0 lead.
Bowen tied the game in the fourth, scoring senior designated player
Dana Nicoletti on a single up the middle.
Freshman right-hander
Thalia Santiago scattered six hits across 7.0-plus innings. After allowing a lead-off double to junior infielder Taylor Luzzi to start the eighth, Nicoletti entered in relief and stranded Luzzi.
Both teams have NE10 doubleheaders next week. The Golden Knights travel to Syracuse on Wednesday to face Le Moyne at 3:00 pm in the Upstate Challenge. New Haven plays two at Pace on Monday at 3:00 pm.
