ALBANY, N.Y. – The College of Saint Rose softball team split a home
Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader with New Haven on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Knights (6-10/1-1 NE10) took their home opener 14-6 before falling 12-0 in the nightcap. Both games only went five innings.
Saint Rose pounded out 15 hits, their highest single-game total of the spring, in the win. Junior outfielder
Astasia Myler went 4-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while freshman infielder
Ryane Brush went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI.
The Golden Knights put across five runs in the first inning of the opener. Freshman infielder
Savanna Liverio had the big hit of the frame, plating a pair with a two-out single to right-center. The Chargers (11-11/4-3 NE10) answered with three in the second.
Senior outfielder
Katie Shevlin began the second with a home run down the left field line. The Golden Knights threatened for more, loading the bases with one out. However, sophomore right-hander Megan Butts, the reigning NE10 Pitcher of the Week, worked out of the jam with no further damage.
Freshman right-hander
Thalia Santiago battled in the circle, escaping a bases loaded, one-out jam in the third unscathed. Saint Rose increased its advantage in the bottom half, scoring five runs. Senior catcher
Sydney Cimini plated two with a single.
In the fourth, junior outfielder Vanessa Strohm cut into the Golden Knight lead with a three-run homer to left. Saint Rose then completed the early finish by plating a trio in the fifth.
In the second game, the visitors received five RBI from senior infielder Erin Stever. The Chargers batted around in a seventh run third. Freshman catcher Jovanna Hillman blasted a two-run homer to highlight the frame. New Haven added to its lead in the fifth when senior infielder Erin Stever hit a three-run home run. The Chargers proceeded to add two more in the inning to ensure another early ending.
The two teams are scheduled to play again tomorrow at noon.
