ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose shot better than 50.0 percent from the floor for the eighth time this season and had all 11 of its players figure in the scoring column during tonight's 83-67
Northeast-10 Conference triumph against visiting American International.
Â
"We got contributions from a lot of different guys. Our defense was solid, but we need to continue to get better offensively every day moving forward," said assistant coach
Mike Perno.
Â
Senior forward
Jack Jones paced the Golden Knights (17-7/12-4 NE10) who improved to 9-2 at home. Jones finished 5-for-8 from the arc on the way to a season-high 21 points in a mere 20 minutes of playing time. Fellow senior
Julian Lipinski tossed in 13 points, while senior guard
Mical-Ryan Boyd and junior guard
Shane Herrity added nine apiece.
Â
Freshman guard Adonis Williams finished with 27 points and six rebounds to lead the Yellow Jackets (11-14/6-11 NE10).
Â
Saint Rose trailed for most of the opening 10 minutes before outscoring American International 25-11 to walk in the locker room up 13, 40-27, at the break. Freshman forward
Jeff Allen finished inside and Herrity canned a 3-pointer to put the Golden Knights ahead to stay, 18-16, with 9:30 left.
Â
Junior guard Kassim Kaba opened the second stanza with a trey for the Yellow Jackets, but the Golden Knights scored 10 unanswered points to put themselves in the catbird seat behind a 20 point advantage, 50-30, with 16:21 to go. It pretty much remained a 20 point ballgame until the final three minutes.
Â
Looking ahead, Saint Rose is back home for the second half of Saturday's conference doubleheader versus New Haven. It will be the third annual John Pesce '86 Day in honor of the former men's basketball player who passed away in 2015 following a courageous battle with cancer. The Yellow Jackets are off until next Wednesday when a scheduling anomaly has them hosting the Golden Knights.
Notes: Jones has averaged 13.7 points on 50.0 percent (15-for-30) shooting throughout the last three games. The Golden Knights sixth man has made 42.9 percent (9-for-21) of his 3-pointers during the stretch. Saint Rose is 8-0 throughout its eight games shooting above 50.0 percent from the floor. Five players are averaging between 15.5 and 9.7 points on the year. Saint Rose has put five players in twin-figures scoring on four occasions and has had four drop in at least 10 points six other times. Furthermore, six players pulled off the feat in an 88-75 victory against visiting Southern New Hampshire on January 17. Boyd and Lipinski are the top point producers. Lipinski is scoring at a 13.4 ppg clip and is pulling down 7.0 rebounds on a regular basis. He is still second in the NE10 with 1.7 blocks and stands ninth in rebounding. Junior forward
Matt Cerutti is sixth among the league leaders in rebounding (7.3). As a team, the Golden Knights are second in the NE10 in scoring defense (68.6) and blocks (3.9), and are fourth in field goal percentage defense (43.4). They have won the turnover battle 14 times this season. Saint Rose is 11-3 in those games and has a +1.3 turnover margin on the year.
