Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | David Alexander

GOLDEN KNIGHTS FALL FOR ONLY THE SECOND TIME AT HOME

ALBANY-The College of Saint Rose rallied from an early double-digit deficit only to suffer just its second home loss of the year with today's 91-83 setback to Northeast-10 Conference rival Southern Connecticut State inside the Daniel P. Nolan Gymnasium. The visiting Owls (12-9/9-10 NE10) shot 55.6 percent (10-for-18) from the arc and got 29 points from the bench to run their win streak to five games.

Junior guard Shane Herrity went 6-for-9 from the arc to pace the Golden Knights (16-6/11-3 NE10) with a career-high 26 points. Also, senior guard Mical-Ryan Boyd had 21 points to go along with five rebounds and four assists while junior forward Matt Cerutti added a career-best 14 points, behind a 6-for-7 effort from the field, and six boards.

Junior guard Isaiah McLeod paced five Southern Connecticut State players in twin-figures with 30 points.

The Golden Knights trailed by 15, 24-9, midway through the first half only to chip away to cut their deficit to eight, 42-34, at the break. Saint Rose got to within a point, 46-45, three minutes into the second half after Boyd and Herrity knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers. It was still a four point, 59-55, ballgame when Herrity drained another trey with 12:50 to go.

However, the Owls countered with a 15-4 jaunt that put them back up 15, 74-59, with 6:44 left to play. The Golden Knights made another push to get to within three, 77-74, following yet another Herrity trifecta, but they could not get any closer as Southern Connecticut State converted all 12 of its free throws throughout the final 2:15 to seal the win.

Looking ahead, both squads have 7:30 pm road conference games Tuesday. Saint Rose travels to Long Island to face Adelphi, while the Owls head to Springfield to take on American International.

Alumni Association Game: Today was the annual Capital District Chapter of the Saint Rose Alumni Association Game. The Chapter donated $150 to the basketball program in honor of Herrity who was selected as the Player of the Game.
Notes: The Golden Knights are now 8-2 at home, 6-3 on the road and have won 10 of their last 13. Five players are averaging between 15.7 and 9.0 points on the year. Saint Rose has put five players in twin-figures scoring on four occasions and has had four drop in at least 10 points six other times. Furthermore, six players pulled off the feat in an 88-75 victory against visiting Southern New Hampshire on January 17. Boyd and Lipinski are the top point producers. Lipinski is scoring at a 13.5 ppg clip and is pulling down 6.9 rebounds on a regular basis. He is second in the NE10 with 1.7 blocks per game. Cerutti is sixth among the league leaders in rebounding (7.5). Herrity has been in double-figures scoring in each of the last seven games. They are 11-3 in those games and have a +1.5 turnover margin on the year. All eight players who saw action today had at least one assist.
